Chevy Rolls Out a New Feature That Locks Teens Out of Driving Until They Buckle Up
Will there ever come a day when parents won’t be worried about their new teen driver on the open road? Probably not, but Chevrolet may have gotten us a step closer to that idea thanks to it’s new safety feature. The automaker’s new Buckle to Drive feature forces teenage drivers, or any driver really, to fasten their seat belt before they can hit the road. Sounds pretty cool right? You might be wondering how difficult is it to install or activate this feature on new models when it is released? It is actually really easy to active this feature and does not take much to turn it on. All parents need to do is program a key fob to make “Teen Driver” the default setting. This makes it so that new teen drivers must fasten their seat belts before they can operate any gear shifts. Once it is on, it will be activated each time the vehicle starts.
In addition to being locked out of the gear shifts before they buckle their seat belts, new teen drivers will be unable to operate the radio essentially leaving all parts of the vehicle not accessible until the belt is fastened. Although Chevy’s new Buckle to Drive feature might not come happy to new teen drivers, parents can rest a little bit easier knowing their teen will not face any distractions while driving.
This could be the start of something standard on all models in the future years to come. Chevrolet automakers have done it again, creating a best in-class safety feature protecting everyone on and off the roads.
